The Zika Fraud Is Just Another Pharma Scare

By Dr. Mercola In October 2015, Brazil experienced an unusual increase in the number of babies born with microcephaly, a neurological condition in which the baby's head size is much smaller than normal. The increase was reportedly linked to Zika virus, a mosquito-borne disease that typically causes only mild symptoms or, in 1 out of 4 people affected, no symptoms at all. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report that out of the 250 pregnant women who had confirmed Zika infection in the U.S in 2016, only 24, or about 1 in 10, had a fetus or baby with Zika-related birth defects.1 The World Health Organization (WHO) wrote in 2016, however, that although Brazil reported an association between Zika virus infection and microcephaly (as well as the neurological disorder Guillain-Barré syndrome, or GBS), "for neither event was a causal link proven.2 Further, if Zika virus were in fact the cause of Brazil's surge in microcephaly, it would be expected that ano

Vaccine Court Is a Big Pharma Fraud

By Dr. Mercola The Vaccine Reaction, published by the non-profit National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), recently highlighted a really disturbing part of the 21st Century Cures Act that has largely escaped below the radar. The 21st Century Cures Act, which was quickly pushed through Congress and became law back in December 2016, allows the waiving of the requirement of informed consent for participants in clinical trials if researchers believe an experimental medical device, drug or vaccine being tested poses no more than minimal risk to the patient’s health, or if the product being tested is deemed by researchers to be in the best interest of trial participants. The Act also lowers FDA standards for the quality of evidence that drug companies have to provide to the FDA before drugs and vaccines are licensed and sold in the U.S. In a nutshell, scientists testing pharmaceutical products like vaccines may now choose to experiment on human beings without obtaining informed consent

Magnesium Protects Against Stroke, Heart Disease and Diabetes

By Dr. Mercola If you’re looking for a way to decrease your risk of developing coronary heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes, new research has revealed profound results from starting a simple new habit: consuming an extra 100 milligrams (mg) of magnesium via your food on a daily basis. Researchers at Zhejiang University and Zhengzhou University in China found that more than 1 million people across nine countries who consumed the most magnesium tested out with a 10 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease, a 12 percent lower stroke risk and a 26 percent lower risk of type 2 diabetes. Regarding the new research, which was published in Biomed Central,1 lead study author Fudi Wang, Ph.D., explains: “Low levels of magnesium in the body have been associated with a range of diseases, but no conclusive evidence has been put forward on the link between dietary magnesium and health risks. Our meta-analysis provides the most up-to-date evidence supporting a link between the role of

What Are the Benefits of Jackfruit?

By Dr. Mercola What large, exotic fruit is related to breadfruit, hailed as a “miracle” crop that could help feed the world and tastes like pulled pork? Give up? The answer is jackfruit, aka Artocarpus heterophyllus. Common and relatively inexpensive in the Philippines, Jamaica, Southeast Asia, Brazil and other tropical climates, it’s beginning to show up more and more often in American grocery stores. While jackfruits are similar in color to the inside of a kiwi when they’re not yet ripe, and later brown, the similarity ends there because jackfruits are huge. A single fruit can weigh from 10 to 100 pounds, with skin that’s either a tightly packed network of spiny knobs or a flattened surface more like that of a grapefruit. They grow on trees as high as 50 feet (although they don’t thrive in cold temperatures), making them the largest fruit tree in the world. Jackfruit trees are perennial, so replanting isn’t necessary. Two growing seasons produce from 150 to 250 jackfru

Higher Vitamin D Levels Lower Cancer Risk

By Dr. Mercola Thousands of studies have been done on the health effects of vitamin D, and research shows it is involved in the biology of all cells and tissues in your body, including your immune cells. Your cells actually need the active form of vitamin D to gain access to the genetic blueprints stored inside. This is one of the reasons why vitamin D has the ability to impact such a wide variety of health problems — from fetal development to cancer. Unfortunately, despite being easy and inexpensive to address, vitamin D deficiency is epidemic around the world. It's been estimated that as many as 90 percent of pregnant mothers and newborns in the sunny Mediterranean region are even deficient in vitamin D,1 thanks to chronic sun avoidance. A simple mathematical error may also deter many Americans and Canadians from optimizing their vitamin D. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends a mere 600 IUs of vitamin D per day for adults. As pointed out in a 2014 paper,2 the IOM underestim

How Soil Microbes and Intercellular Communication Affects Human Health

By Dr. Mercola Your health is in large part determined by the health of the soil in which your food is grown. In this interview, Dr. Zach Bush delves into the many reasons why this is so. Bush, who is triple board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, and hospice and palliative care has done some fascinating and innovative research in this area and is one of the brightest physicians I have ever met. He began his career as a conventional cancer researcher funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). When his funding dried up following the 2008-2010 recession, Bush transitioned into nutrition, eventually coming to understand how chronic inflammation and loss of intercellular communication is at the core of all disease, and why so many of our foods have lost their medicinal value. His science team's work has contributed to the new science of micro-RNA, the result of all that "junk" DNA in your body (accounting for more than 90 percent of the DNA sequences in
