Busy Roads Are Damaging Brains

There’s not as much noise, less pollution in the air and generally better scenery. Now there’s another reason, and probably a more important one: A study1 published in The Lancet now says living close to a major roadway may increase your risk of developing dementia. “Develop” is the operative word, as it denotes something that accrues over time, and in this case, that’s accurate. Researchers who put together the study defined a road as “major” depending on traffic volume, such as an interstate highway in the U.S. The closer you live to major thoroughfares, the higher the dementia risk.
